Pericardial Fluid Examination Report

A Pericardial Fluid Examination is a laboratory analysis of the fluid obtained from the pericardial sac (the space around the heart). This test helps determine the cause of pericardial effusion (fluid accumulation around the heart). Sample is collected by pericardiocentesis performed by a cardiologist. The fluid is interpreted by analysing cell count , sugar & protein level, type of cells, presence of coagulum & bacteriological status. Comment is also made on presence of malignant cells, mesothelial cells and macrophages. Protein level helps to divide the fluid into exudates and transudate. If sugar levels are reduced, acute inflammation is suspected.Report is interpreted as malignan/suspicious/inflammatory/ transudate/Negative for malignancy. Advisory services are provided wherever required.

No special requirement.
